The best marathons in Spain
Zurich Maratón de Sevilla – February 23rd
A great way of starting the year is the marathon of Sevilla, which will take place at the end of the month. The Andalusian city will be crowded with runners to celebrate the 36th edition of a marathon that has the World Athletics (IIAF) Gold Label. The race will also be the official Spanish competition in marathon, so some of the most notable Spanish athletes will compete for the Tokyo Olympics qualification.
Zurich Marató de Barcelona – March 15th
In mid-March we have the 42nd edition of the Barcelona Marathon. The race presents a flat route with the main attraction of seeing some of the most iconic places in the Mediterranean city. Throughout the 42 km, the runners will be able to appreciate the views of Camp Nou, Casa Batlló, Sagrada Família, Torre Agbar or the Arch of Triumph.
EDP Rock ‘n’ Roll Madrid – April 26th
A month later, it is the turn of the capital, which also forms part of the select group of marathons that have the IAAF Gold Label. The race has a city circuit that has become a significant running event due to the considerable number of participants that gathers year after year. Furthermore, there are several shows in different spots of the course that cheer up the race with a great dose of rhythm.
Maratón Gran Canaria ’20 LaLigaSports – May 24th
This year the Spanish marathons calendar introduces a new race. With the support of LaLigaSports, this itinerant marathon will take place every year in a Spanish city that has a football club in First or Second Division. The goal is to gather supporters from every team so as the race becomes a party for the football fans. The chosen city for the debut is Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, an ideal location to visit at the end of May and finish the marathon season. You can register from here.

Zurich Maratón Donostia – November 29th
The San Sebastian marathon has also made a name for itself in the world of the long-distance running. Together with the Bilbao Night Marathon that is run the night of October 19th, the San Sebastian marathon is the main race in the Basque Country. For the 42nd time, thousands of people will run a route that offers several stretches with excellent views to the Donostia beaches.
Maratón Valencia Trinidad Alfonso – December 6th
There is no better way of finishing the year than the Valencia marathon, one of the most successful races in the country that in 2020 will celebrate its 40th edition. As well as Sevilla and Madrid, is part of the group of marathons that have the IAAF Gold Label. The Valencia marathon attracts every season some of the best athletes in the world and it has become usual to see record-breaking performances in the city.
