The Maratón Gran Canaria ’20 with the collaboration of LaLigaSports has been officially presented in LaLiga’s headquarters in Madrid. Josep Guardiola, managing director, Carlota Castrejana, vice president of the Real Federación Española de Atletismo and José Montero, the Institutional Relations deputy director of LaLiga. According to Guardiola, “this project combines the passion for the football and running in which will be an itinerant race that will allow the fans to enjoy altogether the sports world”.
The race is organised by The Seagull Sportive S.L. with the support of LaLigaSports and the Spanish Athletics Federation (Real Federación Española de Atletismo), and will be broadcasted live by LaLigaSportsTV. The first edition of the competition will take place in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on the weekend of May 22nd, 23rd and 24th, 2020. José Montero made emphasis in the importance of strengthening the relationships between RFEA and LaLiga: “it is fundamental to share values such as evolution, collaboration and commitment. Furthermore, thanks to LaLigaSportsTv, every runner will be able to feel like a professional for one day”.
Carlota Castrejana wanted to thank LaLiga for its implication in projects such as this Marathon that “allow the society to be part of something, follow a healthy lifestyle and share the passion for the sport in both individual and collective way.
There are five ways of taking part in the marathon: individual men, male teams, individual women, female teams and mixed teams. The race has the goal of gathering professionals and runners from the 42 football teams that are part of La Liga, as well as all the individual fans of each team. The teams will be formed by groups of 4 people that will take relays in the 10th, 20th and 30th km. Besides, the four members will be able to join in the last stretch of the race so as to cross the finish line together. There is also the chance of running a half-marathon and, for the children, there will also be a kid’s race.
At the same time of the presentation, the registration period to take part in the Maratón Gran Canaria ’20 with the collaboration of LaLigaSports has started and can be completed in the webpage (www.maratoncity.com). The race is included as an official competition of the RFEA national schedule and will be a great meeting point for all the football and running lovers, who will enjoy a great party in our Fan Zone full of fun and activities.
